With the approval of the People’sGovernment of Guangdong Province, Guangdong Institute for InternationalStrategies (GIIS) was established on November 13, 2009. GIIS is a researchconsultancy institute with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) asits functional base. GIIS cooperates with such state ministries and institutesas the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the InternationalDepartment of the Central Committee of the CPC,     Chinese     Academy   of Social Sciences and      Chinese      Academy   of Sciences. It also works withsome top-level domestic and renowned foreign think tanks. It has become areliable think tank in terms of formulation of international strategies anddevelopment of open economy in      Guangdong      Province   . GIIS is one ofthe key units for cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one of thepresidencies of the “Belt and Road” Think Tank Association, Member of ChineseCouncil for Think Tanks of BRICKS, Strategic Research Base of the Science andTechnology Committee of Education Ministry, the Guangdong Base of China-ASEANThink Tank Network, and the Key Base for Soft Sciences of Guangdong.  

In the past over seven years, GIIShas conducted over 70 research projects and has 4 major research areas. Themajor ones are the Key Discipline Project for the Building of High-levelUniversities of Guangdong Province: the Building of Innovation SystemIntegrating Economics and Management Serving for the Major Strategic Demand ofthe 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Studies, the Major Program of NationalSocial Science Foundation in 2015: One Belt and One Road Strategy and China’sParticipation to Global Economic Governance Study. GIIS has completed nearly150 research reports of government consultancy and decision-making since 2010,and more than 90 were approved by the governments and 10 by the CentralCommittee of CPC. The representative reports are “Opinions and Suggestions onImplementing the Plan of Building Maritime Silk Road in the 21st Century”, “AnInternational Comparative Study on Legalization and Internationalization ofBusiness Environment”, and “GIIS’s Study on Strengthening the InternationalIssues Research”. It has made impressive achievements in decision-makingconsultation, international cooperation and high level talent training, whichprovides important intellectual support for the international development of      Guangdong   society andeconomy. It is one of the top 100 think tanks in Asian countries in the GlobalGo To Think Tank Index Report.
