GIISwas Selected as the First Batch of Source Institutes of Chinese Think TankIndex

On Dec. 17, Conference onChinese Think Tanks Governance was held in Nanjing University.Co-organized byNanjing University and Guangming Daily, this Conference attracted approximately700 participants from central and provincial think tank management departments,the first batch of source institutes of Chinese Think Tank Index (CTTI), andthe think tank studies community. Prof. Zeng Chuhong, the Deputy SecretaryGeneral of GIIS attended the Conference and delivered a keynote speech onbehalf of university affiliated think tanks.

The list of CTTI SourceThink Tanks (2017 to 2018) was announced at the Conference. After rounds ofreviews including the overall investigation of think tanks nationwide,recommendations by related institutes and reviews by experts, 489 think tankswere selected into the list, including think tanks from 68 Party and governmentdepartments, 46 academies of social sciences, 44 local partyschools/administration colleges, and 255 university affiliated think tanks, 36non-governmental think tanks, and 11 media think tanks. GIIS was selected asone of the 225 university affiliated think tanks, and one of the 18 think tanksfrom Guangdong Province.
Guangdong University ofForeign Studies (GDUFS) ranked 5th in the University AffiliatedThink Tank Index, together with the selection of GIIS, demonstrating theconsistent efforts of GDUFS and GIISandrecognition from the society, andincreasing the influence of GIIS in the “think tank community” in China.

At the afternoon sub-forumforuniversity affiliated think tanks, Prof. Zeng delivered a keynote speech, inwhich he systematically introduced GIIS’s experience and achievements byintegrating resources in- and outside GDUFS, and made an in-depth analysis onthe challenges and obstacles ahead for the construction of universityaffiliated think tanks.

The unique operation mechanismof GIIS and the insightfulspeech by Professor Zeng were well received by theparticipants, who expressed their strong desire to cooperate with and visitGIIS. Focusing on topics such as the operation mechanism of GIIS and the constructionof university affiliated think tanks, etc., Professor Zeng exchanged profoundlywith experts and scholars from other institutes, which promoted ourunderstanding and friendship.
