GIIS Held the Seminar "Pacific Island Countries in Cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative"

In order to implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at a group meeting with the leaders of the Pacific island countries which have established diplomatic ties with China, to promote Xi Jinping thought on diplomacy of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, to advance the Belt and Road Initiative, to strengthen the political leadership of female elites, and to expedite the development of China-Pacific comprehensive strategic partnership, GIIS held a seminar on "Pacific Island Countries in Cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative" on July 2, 2019. Ms. Faoulusao Stowers, a member from Samoan Legislative Assembly who led a delegation on women's work from Pacific Island countries, attended the seminar. The seminar was also attended by Peng Fei, the first secretary and Liu Junwang, the cadre of the Bureau of Coordinating the Party Group and Foreign Affairs of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Yu Juan, a member of the All-China Women's Federation, and Lin Xiaoling from the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province. Before the seminar, Yang Aimin, vice-president of GDUFS, met with the delegation and the representatives from the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, ACWF and the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office in the VIP room of the Executive Building.

On behalf of her delegation, Ms. Stowers gave a speech at the seminar and expressed thanks to GIIS for its warm reception. Shang Jieqiang, deputy secretary-general of GIIS, conveyed a warm welcome towards the delegates and guests present at the seminar, and gave a brief introduction to the development and achievements of GIIS.

During the expert presentation session, Professor Zhao Weihua presented an overview of the Belt and Road Initiative and the relationship between China and the South Pacific Island countries, as well as between Guangdong and South Pacific island countries. By the means of data analysis, Associate Professor Xu Lihe analyzed the role of the Belt and Road Initiative in boosting economic growth in countries along the route. Dr. Wang Wei introduced how to better drive the Belt and Road Initiative through the "Five-Connectivity Program" (policy, infrastructure, trade, finance and people). During the discussion, the two sides discussed topics including the Belt and Road, Guangdong's economic status quo, the current situation of the South Pacific island countries and etc.
