Ezra Feivel Vogel

Professor Vogel, born in July 1930, is an expert specializing in Chinese affairs. He is the former director of the center of Fei Zhengqing East Asia and a sociologist, proficient in Chinese and Japanese. He graduated from Wesley University in 1950, and received a doctor’s degree in sociology from the Harvard University in 1958. Between 1963 and 1964, he has already been a post doctoral fellow in Harvard and kept studying Chinese and history. He has been regarded as the only scholar in America who has a good command of both Chinese and Japanese affairs. He has many famous works, such as“The Middle Class in Japan” and “ Comeback---American case study”. From the 1970s on, he began to survey the social and economic conditions in Guangdong Province, China. His typical work include “Deng Xiaoping Times”, “Japan is the best”, “Guangzhou: a City under Communist System(1949-1968)”, and “Take the Lead---Reform and Opening Up of Guangdong”.

Areas of Research: Chinese affairs, Japanese affairs, relationship among China, Japan and America.
