On April 4, Collaborative Innovation Center for Guangdong “Go Global” was renamed Collaborative Innovation Center for 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Studies. The unveiling ceremony of the Center andthe first working meeting of the council were held in the International Conference Hall of the north campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS).This meeting was attended by Wang Binwei, deputy director of Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Xie Chunyan, deputy director of Scientific Research Department, academician Zhang Si, director of the South China SeaInstitute of Oceanology (SCSIO) under Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Jianfa,the Party deputy secretary and vice-president of Xiamen University, XingHouyuan, Vice President of Chinese Academy of International Trade and EconomicCooperation Ministry of Commerce, P. R.C China, Guo Xiangang, Vice Presidentof China Institute of International Studies, Yao Zhizhong, Deputy Director of Institute of World Economics and Politics under Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Xiao Xian, vice-president of Yunnan University, other leadersof the coordination units, Chief Researchers and representatives.Besides, the following people also attended the meeting. They are Sui Guangjun,the Party secretary of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), ZhongWeihe, president of GDUFS, He Chuantian, Yang Ai’ming, vice presidents of GDUFSand heads of relevant schools, departments and research institutions. SuiGuangjun presided at the meeting.
It was noted that in order to bring together leading academic talent and groundbreaker and focus on national “OneBelt One Road” strategy, Collaborative Innovation Center for Guangdong “GoGlobal” was renamed Collaborative Innovation Center for 21st-Century MaritimeSilk Road Studies under the guidance of Guangdong Provincial Committee,government and department of education and with strong supports by Leading Group for Advancing the Development of One Belt One Road and coordination units.
Sui Guangjun expressed his appreciation to department of education of Guangdong province and coordination units for theirfull support. He pointed out that the center was a major strategic deploymentof GDUFS to implement the “2011 plan”, to focus on the national “One Belt OneRoad” strategy and to fulfill the urgent and major task of the country. Hestressed that as leader of the center, it is incumbent upon GDUFS to coordinate with its competent authorities, schools and research institutions to supportthe establishment of the center.
Wang Binwei, on behalf of department ofeducation of Guangdong province, extended his warm congratulations on theconvening of center meeting. He expressed two hopes for the construction of thecenter: firstly, the center would play an exemplary role. Secondly, the center would continue to satisfy the demand of country and strive for the best.Provincial Department of Education will, as always, support the development of the center and regard the center as a likely candidate for the declaration of Collaborative Innovation Center at national level.
Zhong Weihe highlighted that GDUFS would overwhelmingly support the development of the center and strive to take the lead in the “One Belt, One Road” studies.
Li Jianfa, representative of coordinationunits, heaped praises on the subject of the center. He thought that facilitating collaborative innovation of 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Studies,the center is bound to provide vitally needed impetus to the “One Belt, OneRoad” initiative.
Zhang Si, representative of coordinationunits, observed that SCSIO, as the coordination unit, will actively perform itsduty and maximize its advantages in scientific research, disciplines, talent and information to foster the development of Collaborative Innovation Center by complementarities and integration.
He Chuantian reported recent development ofthe center to participants in the respect of the process of establishment,upgrading background, and operational mechanism, division of labor of coordination units, framework setting, developmental goal and major taskconcerning the center.
At the meeting, leaders inaugurated the renamed Collaborative Innovation Center for 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Studies. The council voted for issues such as articles of association,regulations, and rules and the recommended lists of the council.
Sui Guangjun, the executive vice president of the center, awarded letters of appointment to the vice presidents.
Later, participants engaged in deep discussion about issues such as the task of the center and collaborative innovation mechanism.
At the end of the meeting, the signing ceremony of major research topic of the center in 2015 was successfully held.
