On June 1st, 2010, the academic exchange was held in Third Conference Room of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Sui Guangjun, the Secretary of the Party Committee of GDUFS and the Executive deputy director of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies, Li Qing, Secretary-General of GRIIS, Professor Yan Xuetong, director of the Institute of International Studies of Tsinghua University, Professor Wang Xinsheng, Executive deputy director of Asia-Pacific Institute, Sun Yat-sen University, Lin Minghua, Chen Han Xi, Wang Shuchun, Xiao Gang from GDUFS and relevant personnel of the Institute attended the meeting.
The meeting was hosted by Li Qing. The scholars exchanged extensively on three topics, including “Think-tank Construction and Government Decision-making”, "Plans for Journal of Strategy and Decision-making and Trends of the International Affairs"and "Research Methods for Strategic Studies Project".
Sui awarded the appointment letters to Yan Xuetong and Wang Xinsheng as guest researchers and part-time researchers and presented a souvenir respectively.
Sui extended sincere appreciation to the experts supporting the construction of the Institute and pointed out that, although the Institute has made some achievements, but it was still in infancy, which was far from the targets.
Li Qing briefly introduced four targets of the Institute. They are compiling Journal of Strategy and Decision-making and Trends of the International Affairs, declaring 12 research projects, building a series of books related to the Institute, undertaking “ASEAN Strategic Forum” and “the Second Guangdong Open Economic Forum " in June and November.
As to the recent work of the Institute and the problems in orientation and development, scholars expressed their opinions and put forward many useful suggestions. Yan Xuetong conveyed his suggestion of doing macro analysis, looking for features, putting forward advice, from the perspectives of what and how the Institutes should do, , how to create a folk Think Tank and how to create academic platform. Wang Xinsheng recognized that it was necessary for the Institute to locate in Guangdong and accumulate experience so as to serve for Guangdong's economic development.
