On June 28th, the 2nd China (Guangdong) - ASEAN Strategic Cooperation Forum--Thailand's Business Environment and Guangdong's investment to Thailand was held in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Tila Kun, Vice Foreign Minister of Thailand visited GDUFS to attend the forum. Sui Guangjun, the Party secretary of GDUFS met with the guests in the VIP Hall in North Campus. Fang Fanquan, the vice president of GDUFS, also attended the meeting.
Sui Guangjun extended warm welcome to the guests and briefly introduced the academic achievements and the development of Thai School in GDUFS. He pointed out that the Thai School established in 1970 had been adapting to the demand of the society. The employment rates of students are close to 100% every year. Sui Guangjun also stressed the encouragement of the presents by the Thai guests to the students.
Tila Kun thanked for the warm welcome. He mentioned the close relationship of Thailand and Guangdong from geographical position and historical development. He said, "In the long term of cooperation, Guangdong has been the gate for Thailand to enter China and Thailand can be an important gate for China to contact ASEAN." He approved of the functions of the students exchange system between GDUFS and Thailand to the academic and cultural communication of the two sides. He thought the education would promote the cultural exchange and build bridge for the cooperation, which is the focus of the project.
He accepted the interview from Southern Daily and answered the questions on the goal of the First Cooperation Meeting of China and Thailand. He said Thailand had overfulfilled the goal by the trade growth rate of 32.3% and finished three cooperation projects on energy, rubber between China and Thailand. He also mentioned that Thailand would take 200 enterprises to the 8th China Club and Guangdong would take part in the 2011 Investment Promotion Exposition in Thailand under the theme of "Green Economy". The two sides will proved more platforms to advance the cooperation and exchange.
The reporters asked questions on agricultural development planning, development and cooperation of small and medium-sized enterprises, market supervision of tourism and so on. On the hot issue of the safety of the imported food, Tila Kun promised that the Ministries of Agriculture, Health and Commerce of Thailand would cooperate for the quality supervision of the exported food to ensure the safety of agricultural and industrial products whose quality should reach the standards.
