2012 marks the 40th anniversary of normalization of Sino-Japan diplomatic relations. From March 26th to 27th, the 2012 Sino-Japan Forum-on the Tendency of Japan after “3.11” and East Asia Relations Symposium was held at the university, welcoming famous scholars of philosophy and social science from Japan, China’s Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to communicate on key topics. The symposium was co-hosted by the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures and Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies.
Attending the meeting were Professor Komori Yoichi from Tokyo University, Professor Shimamura Teru from Ferris University of Japan, Sun Lichuan, chief editor of Hong Kong Tiandi Books Ltd., Wu Chongqing, Chief editor of Open Times magazine, Professor Wu Zhitong, Professor Lin Gang and Professor Tong Jun from Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Wang Xianghua from University of Hong Kong, Associate Professor Lin Shaoyang from City University of Hong Kong, Professor Hong Shihong from Hannan University of Japan, Professor Li Yuanxi and Professor Chen Guangxue of South China University of Technology, Professor Chen Kaixian of South China Normal University, and Professor Gu Yeli, Vice-President of the university. Also present at the meeting were directors of relative departments, teachers from Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies, Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures, and the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture. The meeting was hosted by Professor Chen Duoyou, Director of the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures.
Gu Yeli, vice-President of the University, delivered a speech in the meeting, hoping that the meeting would serve as a platform for comprehensive understanding and communication between Chinese and Japanese scholars. Meeting host Chen Duoyou introduced the social conditions of Japan after the “3.11” earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear leakage, and responses both from Japanese and Chinese academic community.
In the experts’ speech session, Professor Xiao Yaofei made a speech titled “Enlightenment of 3.11 Japan Earthquake”. Professor Komori Yoichi talked about his personal experience in the 3.11 earthquake, criticized on Japanese government in failing to fulfill their obligations in the earthquake, and made comments on the safety of nuclear energy usage.
The symposium continued to proceed in the afternoon hosted by Professor Ding Guoqi. Professor Lin Gang, Professor Wu Chongqing, Professor Hong Shihong, Professor Dao Cunhui and other scholars talked on the meeting. In the end, Professor Chen Duoyou summarized the meeting, commenting on all the discussion and opinions of all the guests.
