Former US Consul General in Shanghai Visited GDUFS and Discussed on Sino-US Relationship

On the morning of October 24th, at the invitation of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies, Kenneth Jarrett, chairman of Greater China of APCO and former US consul general in Shanghai, visited GDUFS. Shi Youqi, the vice president of GDUFS, met with him in the VIP Hall of Administration Building in the North Campus. Later, Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of GRIIS, Cai Hong, executive deputy director of Center for European Studies, Tang Xiaosong, director of US Studies Center and other staff made academic exchanges with him in the Second Meeting Room of Administration Building.
Shi Youqi extended warm welcome to Kenneth Jarrett and conveyed the respects of Sui Guangjun, the Party secretary. He introduced the history and culture, education features and ideas of GDUFS, especially on the important status of GRIIS which is located in Guangdong, has national influence and a global vision. GRIIS plays its role in the development of Guangdong society.
Later, the participants went to Second Meeting Room for further discussion. Liu Jisen introduced the framework of GRIIS. Kenneth Jarrett spoke on the political and economic hot issues of China and the US. He probed into the exchange rate issue, the South China Sea issue and the US impeachment issue and the position of the US. He said the US would not hope the situation in South China Sea to deteriorate but only wanted the navigation freedom. He also mentioned the stress of the US and the conditions of the two countries which raised the topic of Sino-US relationship.
After the meeting, Tang Xiaosong said, "It helps the two countries to know each other from the exchange of different opinions on the exchange rate issue, the South China Sea issue and other issues."
