The China- Chile Center is the achievement made through the long lasting friendship between University of Saint Thomas and educational institutes in China. It is the first center established by Latin American counties and China and aimed to set up communication platform for small and medium enterprises in China and Chile.
By setting up the center, UST aims at improving its research on international economy and trade, especially that in China. Offices were set up in both sides in the hope to create new opportunities for trade and establish closer relations between small and medium enterprises in both counties. Victor Svenders, director of research center of UST will be in charge with the office in Chile while Li Yongning is responsible for the running of the Chinese office.
According to Victor Svenders, they would work on the cooperation in academics, trade and economy in order to provide practical instruction to small and medium companies in Chile trading with China. He mentioned that the two sides would co-release regular trade report for small and medium enterprises. Robert Rafftiena, the director of International Project Department of UST, praised the center as a milestone for the trade exchange between China and Latin America.
