In the morning of August 5th, with the recommendation of Ambassador Zhang Yan in India, Professor B.R. Deepak, Doctor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Post Doctor of University of Edinburgh, UK, and senior professor of Center for Chinese and South East Asian Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University, made an academic visit to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. A seminar was held by Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies in the 3rd Conference Room of Administration Building to exchange ideas on academics and future joint research plan. The participants included Prof. Li Qing, Secretary-general of GRIIS, Prof. Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of GRIIS, Prof. Li Yongning, director of editorial department of "Studies on Strategic Decisions" and chief editor of "Trends of the International Affairs", Prof. Zuo Liancun, expert in Indian Studies and Doctor Song Haixiao from Guangdong Survey Research Center. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Li Qing.
Li Qing introduced the education background and research interest of Prof. Deepak, who had been conducting Sino-Indian studies and spent eight years in China for academic study.
Prof. Deepak briefed on the domestic economic development of India. He thought India was just the same as the situation of China in 1990s. It is building public infrastructure to promote economy. He thought that India should learn from China on reform and opening-up, especially in infrastructure construction where there was much room to cooperate.
Prof. Deepak analyzed the cooperative areas of the Institute and the research institutes in India. First, they could try to publish academic results in China and India simultaneously; second, they could share the economic and trade information of the two countries. Prof. Zuo Liancun, Prof. Li Yongning, Dr. Song Haixiao and Prof. Liu Jisen made further discussions with Prof. Deepak on the development of Chinese enterprises like Zhongxin and Huawei, the comparative study of Pearl River Delta and Ganges Delta, the influence of Indian politics on the foreign policies and the economic and trade cooperation between Guangdong and India.
Prof. Li Qing made the conclusion that the two sides exchanged much information in the meeting and could cooperate in areas such as the international comparison of business environment, apply jointly for the Asian Scholarship Foundation and Carnegie research funds, and publish jointly academic book.
