GRIIS Delegation Attended the Fourth China-South Korea Investment and Research Symposium

From June 7th to 9th, at the invitation from Development Institute of the Republic of Korea and Dae Jin University, delegation of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies led by Professor Xiao Yaofei, chief editor of “International Economics and Trade Research”, attended the Fourth China-South Korea Investment and Research Symposium.
Mr. Kim Joo-Hoon, Deputy Director of the Development Institute welcomed warmly the local think tank. He met with GRIIS delegation and introduced in detail the history, research objectives and international cooperation of the Development Institute. Xiao Yaofei, chief researcher of GRIIS, Quan Yonggen, Deputy Director of School of of Asian Languages and Cultures, and Yu Pengyi, Deputy Director of Department of Education in GDUFS exchanged ideas with the staff of the Development Institute on GRIIS and future cooperation.
Before the meeting with Kim Joo-Hoon, the delegation attended the Fourth China-South Korea Investment and Research Symposium. Participants in the symposium included Professor Lee Geun-Young, President of Dae Jin University, Bae Gyu-Han, the Vice President and representatives from government and enterprises of Pocheon city.
The Symposium began with keynote speech by Lee Geun-Young. He mentioned that since the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and South Korea twenty years ago, communications and cooperation between the two countries in academic, business and governmental level had been strengthening. Therefore, the symposium on the investment environment between China and South Korea was important to deepen the cooperation between the two countries. Prof. Lee also said that since the signing of cooperation agreement between Dae Jin University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, great success in student cultivation and scientific research and cooperation had been made. These successes made great contribution to the upgrading of internationalization of the two countries.
On behalf of GRIIS delegation, Xiao Yaofei, chief researcher of GRIIS and chief editor of “International Economics and Trade Research” gave a keynote speech. He said that after nearly 70 years of development, South Korea had ranked among the world’s best developed countries in terms of economy, trade and culture. The successful experience in industrial transformation in recent 20 years was especially important to Guangdong.
Other scholars from China and South Korea also shared their achievements of recent research on investment environment in China and South Korea. Professor Liu Li of School of International Trade and Economics, GDUFS, gave a report on the methods and modes of industrial transformation and upgrading, to which Korean scholars had drawn great attention. Professor Cho Dong-Hyun gave a speech on the topic of the Recent Economic Development in Guangdong from South Korea’s perspective. Kim Jin-Sub explored on the expansion of investment and strengthening of dialogue in South Korea’s cosmetic industry. In addition, Lee Geun-Young gave an analysis of the support from Pocheon government to the development of enterprise and regional economic development in Pocheon.
The successful cooperation between Dae Jin University and GDUFS has contributed to the communication in economic and trade sectors between Foshan city in Guangdong and Pocheon city in Korea. The mayor of Pocheon city visited delegates of GRIIS in Foshan city one day before going to Foshan for a symposium. Both parties expected that more cooperation and communication could be realized and more contributions could be made to the investment and academic development in South Korea.
