From October 10th to 14th, 2012, the “Seminar on European Studies Across the Tainwan Strait” hosted by Chinese Association of European Studies was convened in Beijing, under the theme of “Transformation of Europe and the World Situation”. More than 50 scholars of European studies from over 30 institutes of Mainland and Taiwan were invited to the seminar. They had an in-depth discussion about the current change of the world situation, transformation of Europe in politics, economy, society, foreign relations and integration due to the financial crisis and European debt crisis, and the challenge of Sino-Europe relationship.
The seminar had three parallel sessions, respectively in Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China. There are also parallel topics about the governance reforms of Europe, effect of the transformation of Europe on the world situation, the latest development of EU, experience ment of European teaching and research and the effect of the European debt crisis on Mainland and Taiwan, around which attending scholars had an extensive and in-depth discussion.
When it came to the part of experience exchange of European teaching and research, the Centers for European Studies of RUC, Sichuan University and GDUFS were invited to give special lectures. Cai Hong, director of European Studies Centre, GDUFS, made a speech on “Promoting high-level and sustainable development of European studies with the assistance of master and doctor programs”. She briefed on the the origins, basis and advantage, features and achievements, curriculum and team building, problems and their solutions of the master and doctor programs and the promotion of European studies in GDUFS, especially the feature of interdisciplinary and international combination of basic research and applied research. The speech was highly praised and attracted strong interest from the scholars in cooperating with GDUFS on European studies.
