Shi Youqi, the academic leader of European studies hosted the meeting.
Professor Sui Guangjun at first welcomed all the 2013 doctoral candidates of European Studies. He also pointed out that European Studies was a new interdisciplinary subject. It was a demanding task and a kind of lifestyle to study it. He demanded that the students should set higher standards for themselves and be more initiative. In order to have high quality research results, the doctoral candidates should be fully absorbed in their studies. Although the territories of supervisors were not the same, they had a lot of similarities when it came to the interdisciplinary subject of European Studies, which provided more space for the new research achievements. Professor Sui Guangjun also stressed the academic integrity and demanded the doctoral candidates set strict standards on themselves so that they could become high-level doctors after graduation.
Professor Shi Youqi made some specific explanations on the training objective and requirements of doctoral candidates of European Studies. He also made three requests. First is to, have solid fundamental knowledge both systematically and comprehensively. Second is to publish at least two articles on CSSCI. Third is to make clear the research object, direction and topic as soon as possible, and propose a specific research plan in 3 months.
Cai Hong said that the Center for European Studies would try their best to provide high-quality service and support for the supervisors and doctoral candidates.
Four doctoral candidates expressed their determination to work hard and never let their supervisors down. The students also gave flowers to their teachers, expressing their best wishes to them.
The Picture of All the Participants
The doctoral station of European Studies was the only doctoral station named after “European Studies” in China. In our school, it is an interdisciplinary subject which is subordinate to the first class discipline of “foreign languages and literatures”. It includes four research directions, namely “European society and culture”, “European economy”, “European laws” and “European politics and diplomacy”.
