Sui Guangjun Attended “Guangdong and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Seminar”

On June 5, Sui Guangjun, Party secretary of GDUFS and executive deputy director of GRIIS, was invited to attend the “Guangdong and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Seminar”, which was hosted by Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Guangdong Provincial Oceanic and Fishery Bureau, and Sun Yat-sen University and was held at the South Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. He also delivered a speech entitled “Strategic Approach Selection for building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”

Sui Guangjun pointed out that the construction of the 21st century Marine Silk Road is confronted with five major difficulties and challenges: first, poor infrastructure in ASEAN countries; second, trade deficit of ASEAN countries; third, lack of political mutual trust between China and ASEAN countries; fourth, insufficient civil exchanges; fifth, dispute of the South China Sea.
He also pointed out that Guangdong is a major province with developed economy, foreign trade and maritime resources and boosts its unique advantages in the construction of the 21st century Marine Silk Road. Guangdong should shoulder its responsibility and play its due role in clearing up the misunderstandings and doubts of ASEAN countries and promoting the construction of the 21st century Marine Silk Road.
Participants include distinguished guests such as Li Chunhong, director of Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission and scholars from Renmin University of China, Sun Yat-Sen University and so on.
Chen Wanling and Song Haixiao, researchers of GRIIS were also present.
