The 56th Yunshan Academic Salon: the Influence of Chinese Culture on the European Society of the 16th to the 18th Centuries

In the afternoon of May 21, 2014, Prof. Rui D’Ávila Lourido from Coimbra, Portugal, President of the Observatory for China and scholar of the international scientific team of the major UNESCO Project “The Integral Study of the Silk Roads - Roads of Dialog” paid a visit to GRIIS and delivered a keynote speech entitled “the Influence of Chinese Culture on the European Society of the 16th to the 18th Centuries”. The salon was chaired by Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of GRIIS.
Prof. Lourido first elaborated on the important role that Guangdong and Macao played in the trade between Asia and Europe in the 16th-18th century and further analyzed the current deep impact of Chinese culture on Portugal.
In the end, Prof. Lourido made an in-depth discussion with the participants on issues such as cultural immersion and change.
