On September 26, the Opening Report of the Major Project of National Social Science Fund was held in the International Conference Hall of the Administration Building on North Campus of GDUFS. Zhong Weihe, the president of GDUFS, Ding Jinqing, director of Theory Division of Publicity Department of Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPC, Feng Dacai, director of Guangdong Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science delivered the opening speeches. Shi Yinhong, counselor of State Council, Guo Peng, the counsellor of Policy Planning Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China and Visiting Researcher of GRIIS attended the seminar. He Chuantian and Yang Aimin, the vice presidents of GDUFS were present. The seminar was chaired by He Chuantian.
President Zhong Weihe remarked that GDUFS was getting a higher level of scientific research as it became more global. He said that the study on the strategic support countries was significant for China’s national strategy of building “One Belt and One Road”. He invites the experts give suggestions to help the project team.

Ding Jinqing addressed in his opening speech that the successful application of the major projects was an important manifestation of the comprehensive strength of GDUFS and the innovation strength of its expert teams. It not only helped GDUFS for its international development but also helped Guangdong to implement the strategy of “strengthening province force by talents”.

Prof. Zhou Fangyin, vice president of GDUFS and the applicant of the project reported on the project design and research proposal to the experts and leaders present in the seminar. He made a detailed timetable of the project and gave an introduction of the project in seven parts, including cases on major powers and Chinese characteristics. Members of the project team Tang Xiaosong, Wang Shuchun and Chen Hanxi also provided supplementary information.

Shi Yinhong praised the project team for its sufficient preparatory work. He said that how China would choose, construct and maintain the strategic support in the next decade was significant for it to keep initiative in competition with other major powers.

Guo Peng suggested that the project team should take the historical origin, realistic basis, feasibility of work into consideration when choosing the strategic fulcrum. The team should well plan the construction of strategic fulcrum.
Besides, Yuan Zhengqing, researcher of Institute of World Economics and Politics Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), executive chief editor of World Economics and Politics, Gao Cheng, researcher of National Institute of International Strategy of CASS, executive chief editor of Journal of Contemporary Asia-Pacific Studies, Yu Changsen, dean of Department of International Studies of School of Asia-Pacific Studies of Sun Yat-sen University and Zhang Zhenjiang, the vice dean of Department of International Studies of Jinan University and other experts and scholars delivered speeches.
