Focus and Discussion: Broaden the International Horizon of the Development of Pearl River Delta--Joint Academic Visit by Lund University and Peking University

On October 4th, a joint academic visit and communication meeting by Lund University and Peking University with Guangdong Research Institute of International Strategy (GRIIS) held at a meeting hall of the MBA center in the sixth teaching building of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Prof. Li Yong-ning (the chief editor ofInternational Focus), Wu Yan (Secretary of GRIIS), Prof. Gunilla Kronvall, Mr. Lennart Nilsson (the Counselor of Sino-Swedish Business and South China Affairs), Mr. Barry D Wilson, Ms. Xing-yuan Zhu and postgraduate students of different nationalities attended the communication meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, Wu Yan (Secretary of GRIIS) made a brief introduction to the topic of the meeting and introduced the honored guests present. Then Prof. Gunilla Kronvall introduced the urbanization dynamics project of their group, the background, and future of the world’s organizations and what had happened until now.

Prof. Li Yong-ning made a brief introduction of GRIIS including its foundation, support, main research fields, and research institutions and publications.

On behalf of GRIIS, he said,“I hope we everyone present here can exchange our ideas and the two universities can have more exchange and cooperation with GRIIS in the future.”.

Also, Prof. Li Yong-ning gave a long and informative speech on the growth to development of the Pearl River Delta, based on his long-term study on the Institutional arrangement for the Pearl River Delta. The main contents of Prof. Li’s speech are:Outline for his research of PRD, traditional and new types of concepts from urban to mega-urban development which he focused on Landscape approaches, the development dynamics of PRD, the economic growth and social construction of PRD, spatial initiatives for new-round development in PRD as a Mega-city region, and perspectives of future cooperation with International Regions. Equipped with professional and solid knowledge about PRD, Prof. Li made a substantial, easy and smooth speech and mutual exchange on site is quite good.

After Prof. Li’s speech came the Question and Answer section. Prof. Gunilla Kronvall, Mr. Barry D Wilson and Students from different countries exchanged their ideas with Prof. Li and put forward their questions freely. And they greatly appreciated Prof. Li’s concrete and substantial interpretations.

The discussion ended with Prof. Gunilla Kronvall’s sincere wishes to GRIIS and the mutual hopes of meets in the future years. Prof. Gunilla Kronvall’s mentioned that it’s Chinese holiday for the moment and it’s very kind of GRIIS to organize the communication meeting. Also, on behalf of their research institute, she gave Prof. Li a gift for his informative speech. “We learn very much. It’s a very good discussion. We welcome you to our city for a visit. ” She added.
