Professor Dennis W. Johnson was Invited to Lecture on Sino-US Relations

“Many people want to bring back America, you know the glorious days when the US was so powerful.” Pessimistic about the current situation in the United States, many Americans want the United States back to the glorious days. December 15, 2010, at the invitation of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies, Professor Dennis W Johnson, vice president of Political Management School of George Washington University, presented a vivid report on Sino-US relations in Room B307C of the laboratory building. The lecture was hosted by Professor Tang Xiaosong, Professor Liu Jisen, Deputy Secretary-General of GRIIS attended the lecture.

Dennis started by describing the current situation of the United States in the economic crisis, where many U.S. citizens were unsatisfied with U.S. President Obama, and found that Obama failed to solve the economic crisis which he promised in the campaign. The problem of unemployment rate is still unresolved. Therefore, the 2012 U.S. presidential election is full of the unknown factors.

Sino-US Relation: History and the Hot Issues

After a brief introduction to the current situation of the United States, Dennis began to analyze the Sino-US relations in the U.S. economic crisis, including the history of Sino-US relations, the relevant policies of the United States. On the focuses in Sino-US relation, Dennis analyzed some hot issues, such as Sino-US trade war issues (Possible Trade War), the Yellow Sea problem, Korean issues, and the protection of intellectual property. Dennis believed that China was America's largest creditor, and China-US relations had different characteristics. Although the two are competing secretly, the war is unlikely to happen.
