Guangdong must carefully studied international issues. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the Guangdong Research Institute of International Strategies yesterday, Sui Guangjun, the Party Secretary of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the Executive deputy director of the Institute, accepted an exclusive interview from Nanfang Daily. He emphasizde the Institute was devoted to construct a think tank around the world, compiling related database for Guangdong enterprises’ "going out strategy" and researching internationalization issues of Guangdong cities.

Sui Guang Jun's "High Seas Theory" reveals the challenges faced by China and Guangdong. it is undeniable that, as China's largest foreign trade province, Guangdong is facing more international problems.

“When facing international problems, many government agencies and enterprises often feel confused. For example, China and Guangdong are now faced with energy crisis. It is necessary to go to Africa and South America for resources, but they are not familiar with local customs, rules, and procedures.” Chen Yunxian, Foshan Party Secretary, admitted that the most important problem was the "internationalization". Everyone felt confused about how to internationalize.

Guangdong does not have a good foundation for international strategies. Compared with Beijing and Shanghai, Guangdong knows little about its frequently-contacted international partners and is inadequate in academic research. Guangdong University of Foreign Studies was established precisely in order to make up for this.

This is a senior Research Institution without walls. It makes fully use of its own advantages, attracting renowned scholars around the world who are interested in Guangdong to jointly explore the international strategic issues in Guangdong.

Since the establishment, the Institute set the rules: selecting a number of projects among the most urgent and important international issues in Guangdong for public bid. This June, The first 12 subjects have been bidded, including the most pressing topic in Guangdong, such as RMB regionalization, services liberalization, low-carbon strategy, and training local multinational companies.

The four major projects include region and cities, international economy and trade, Cantonese merchants’ research and international strategic research. At present, 9 research centers of the Institute have already set up. Li Qing said that the Institutes would summit research reports located in Guangdong every year, and strive to become the authority for strategic decision-making support of relevant governmental departments.

Recently, “Access to ASEAN” Series (10) has been initially completed, which is one of the earliest research achievements of the Institute. Later, the “Series of National Situation Studies" and other books will start successively.
