The Third International Symposium of China-ROK Investment Environment was Successfully Held in GDUFS

In May 28th, the Third International Symposium of China-ROK Investment Environment was held in International Conference Hall of Administration Building in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Representatives, experts and scholars from governments, industrial and academic fields and research institutes of the two countries and the teachers and students from the Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures of GDUFS attended the meeting.

The seminar is mainly to implement the strategic cooperation framework agreement signed by GDUFS and Foshan Municipal Government and the important consensus reached by the Second International Seminar of China-ROK Investment Environment, to promote Pocheon City and Foshan City to be sister cities, strengthen the China-ROK economic and trade exchanges, integrate the teaching and research resources of GDUFS and promote economic and social development.

This seminar is organized by the Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies and Dae Jin University of Republic of Korea, undertaken by Korean Research Institute of GDUFS, and co-organized by Foshan Foreign Affairs Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau, Foshan Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, Scientific Research Department of GDUFS, International Exchange Office, MBA Education Center, Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures, East Asian Research Center, Cantonese Merchants Research Center, Research Center for International Trade and Economic, and Research Institute of Guangzhou International Business and Trades Center.

On the morning of the 28th, the meeting was held in the International VIP Hall of GDUFS. Thw participants include Professor Gu Yeli, vice president of GDUFS, Professor So Sung-Gyu, the head of the ROK delegation, Professor 洪运基Hong -ki, director of Life Support Bureau of Pocheon City of ROK, other members of the South Korean delegation, Professor Li Qing, Secretary-general of Guangdong Research Institute for International Studies, Professor Cui Geng of Hong Kong Lingnan University (Yunshan scholar of GDUFS), Professor Yang Aimin, director of Scientific Research Department, Wu Junfeng, deputy director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Professor Chen Duoyou, director of Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures, Professor Yang Shaogang, executive chief editor of "Studies on Strategic Decisions" of GRIIS, Sun Jianjun, the executive director of MBA Center, and Professor Quan Yonggen, director of Korean Research Institute of Faculty of Asian Languages and Cultures. The two sides introduced each other and made friendly exchanges.

At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Li Qing delivered the opening speech and affirmed the seminar's role in promoting the commercial cooperation between Guangdong and South Korea. It not only strengthens the interactions between the universities and scholars, but also attracts the participation of government departments, so as to provide a new direction for economy and trade between the two sides. She said that the seminar showed the achievements and friendship of Dae Jin University of Republic of Korea and GDUFS, and wished the seminar a complete success.

Subsequently, Gu Yeli, vice president of GDUFS, So Sung-Gyu, the head of the ROK delegation, Xie Weixiong, deputy director of Foshan Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, and 洪运基Hong -ki, director of Life Support Bureau of Pocheon City of ROK made their speeches. Gu Yeli quoted a Chinese saying "It is always a pleasure to greet a friend from afar" to welcome all guests. He indicated that GDUFS, as a teaching and research university of distinctive international characteristics, would provide a consultative platform for the government in the international economy, trade and international relationships, deepen the mutual understanding on academics and economy between China and South Korea, and give further play for GRIIS to the serve for the local economy. Therefore, he thought it was of great significance.

The theme of this seminar is "optimizing the business environment and promoting mutual investment". The representatives started from a realistic perspective and had a comprehensive and constructive discussion and exchange.

Professor Lee Raok-hyun of Dae Jin University of Republic of Korea designed a series of furniture conduciving to human life using bionics from the perspective of a human life designer. He raised the assumption that the furniture design should be natural, environment-friendly, practical, inexpensive, and corresponding to the aesthetic vision. It shows the direction for the development of enterprise cooperation.

Professor Cui Geng, who is a Yunshan scholar, analysed in detail the advantages and disadvantages of of the investment environment in China through charts. In his view, different products have different influences on different consumer groups in different places. The local brands consolidate the basis of their trade development. The foreign brands are gradually localized to adapt to consumers' demand..

Wang Yongzai, curator of Korea Trade Center in Guangzhou, Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of GRIIS, and Professor Han Manxu of Dae Jin University of Republic of Korea elaborated their views about economic cooperation and development of Guangdong and South Korea. They penetrated into the advantages and disadvantages of the business cooperation of Guangdong and South Korea and the Guangdong industrial development with detailed data. They studied the investment opportunities in Guangdong of the development of strategic emerging industries by China and South Korea. They provided constructive plans to the industrial cooperation, which improve the investment environment and promote mutual economic benefits.

Subsequently, the second section of the seminar was held on the second floor of Yidan Exchange Center in Foshan. The meeting was presided over by Zhang Bing, the deputy director of Foshan Foreign Affairs Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau. Delegations of China and ROK, Xie Weixiong, the deputy director of Foshan Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau, and some representatives from Foshan enterprises attended the meeting.

Xie Weixiong introduced the investment environment in Foshan City to ROK. In his speech, Xie Weixiong proposed three ideas: promoting enterprises of two sides to know more trade and investment information of each other, building platform to promote trade and investment for the enterprises, and to provide high-quality services for the two-way investments of the enterprises. The Korean representatives agreed with the ideas.

The seminar came to a successful end in a friendly atmosphere. The meeting has achieved a substantial breakthrough, as experts and scholars of China and the ROK have had a profound communication and combine academic achievements with practice. It will promote the dialogue between the governments of Guangdong and ROK, and fully reflect the value of universities in economic development, which is providing service to the society. This cooperation model will be the opportunity for deeper China-ROK friendly exchanges in the future, and become the new direction of China-ROK cooperation.
