On the morning of April 27, To Quoc Tuan, Consul-General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, Hoang Ngoc Bao, Cultural Consul, and Phung Thi Hui冯氏惠, deputy director of China Research Institute of Vietnam visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Sui Guangjun, the Party secretory of GDUFS met the guests in Greeting Hall in South Campus. The participants also include Fang Fanquan, the vice-president, Jiao Fangtai, director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office, Li Qing, Secretary-general of Guangdong Research Institute for International Studies and Wu Junfeng, deputy director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office.
Sui Guangjun extended warm welcome to the guests and introduced briefly the curriculum, employment, foreign exchanges and scientific research institutions of the university. He emphasized on Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies and Research Institute of International Service Outsourcing. China, including Guangdong Province, has always attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries. As independent government think tanks, the two Research Institutes provide ome support to the Guangdong Provincial Government. As a base for cultivating international talents, GDUFS would like to conduct academic cooperation and research with Vietnam universities and research institutes to promote cultural, economic and trade cooperation between China and Vietnam. Sui Guangjun invited Vietnamese experts to participate in the forum on ASEAN research and low-carbon and environmental protection, which would be held in GDUFS this year. He also invited Consul-General To Quoc Tuan to give a lecture on China-Vietnam relations for the teachers and students in the university.
To Quoc Tuan appreciated the warm reception and agreed with what Sui Guangjun had said. He believed that the bilateral relations were progressing under the guidance of the leaders of the two countries. The cultural, and economic and trade cooperation have been developing. Vietnam's total trade volume in 2010 was $ 25 billion, far exceeding the expected $ 15 billion. The trade volume between Vietnam and Guangdong was $ 6 billion. Guangdong provincial government made large investments in Vietnam, such as infrastructure investment, and promoted the development of Vietnam. To Quoc Tuan hoped that the strategic research of GDUFS would help Vietnam to build a developed society in economy, talents and scientific research. He hoped that the university could provide some valuable experience for China Research Institute of Vietnam. He also asked about the Vietnamese students in GDUFS and expressed his thanks for the considerable arrangements. He said, "I wish my son can come to the GDUFS to study." It is reported that the number of Vietnamese students in GDUFS is 81, ranking only second to the South Korean students.
Finally, the two sides communicated on the specific issues of continued cooperation.
