On April 12, 2011, Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies and "Nanfang Daily" introduced the column of "Nanfang Interpreting-the World" run by the two sides. In the column dialogue entitled "Where to Go after Japanese Earthquake", the two sides invited Liu Yongjiang, deputy director of the Research Institute of Contemporary International Relations of Tsinghua University, professor Zhou Yongsheng of Institute for International Relations in Foreign Affairs University, Wu Xinbo, director of East Asian Research Center of Shanghai International Studies University, and professor Xiao Gang of Institute of International Studies in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies to discuss on this topic.
The column is run by GRIIS and "Nanfang Daily". It tracks and reports major international events in the form of conversations. It invits famous scholars in international strategy studies to review and comment the major international political, economic, diplomatic, and cultural activities.
Before this column, the two sides have successful held two reports of "Nanfang Interpreting-Dialogue"-- On December 23, 2010, professor D. Ibsen, German regional and urban sociologist, professor Yu Kongjian, director of College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture of Peking University, professor Li Yongning, director of Center for Urbanization and the International Cities Studies of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies made indepth exploration on urban development of Guangzhou after the Asian Games, Beijing after the Olympic Games, and Shanghai after the World Expo. On January 21, 2011, American scholar Fulbright, professor Dennis Johnson from George Washington University and Tang Xiaosong, director of Center for American Studies of GRIIS accepted an interview of "Nanfang Daily", and were invited to the discussion on "Diplomatic Talks of Hu and Obama", the joint statement and the changes that they bring to the bilateral relations in the "Nanfang Reading-the World" column on that day.
It is reported that "Nanfang Interpreting-the World" column will launch the second and third phase, which will invite domestic and foreign experts to interpret the international hotspot issues and their impacts on Guangdong.
It is the first current politics column in China that is run by university and research institute and the mainstream media. The "Nanfang Reading-the World" column which is elaborated by the two sides will surely promote the improvement of GRIIS as a think tank and the upgrading of "Nanfang Daily" as a media brand.
