On the afternoon of April 15, the Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies held the first Yunshan academic salon with the theme of "the utilization of foreign capital and business environment in Guangdong province". 18 experts and scholars from government and research institutes are invited to this salon, with the aim to communicate and discuss the research fields and methods of international strategy based on the urgent task for Guangdong economic transformation and structure adjustment to provide support on decision-making for the economic development of Guangdong. Since then, Yunshan academic salon will be held regularly.
As the host of this salon, Li Yongning, the editorial director of "Studies on Strategic Decisions" and chief editor of "Trends of the International Affairs" of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies, introduced the background and theme of the salon. Bai Mingshao, vice chairman of the Council for the Promotion of International Trade of Guangdong, was the first speaker in this salon. He asked for suggestions for improving the business environment of Guangdong.
Many experts and scholars also talked on how to improve Guangdong business environment as the economic development of Jiangsu Province was catching up with that of Guangdong. Gu Yeli, vice-president of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and Yang Shaogang, executive chief editor of "Studies on Strategic Decisions", pointed out that we should begin with the cultural level to address the difficulty in building business environment fundamentally.
Other experts raised the key factors of addressing the problems of business environment from the aspect of standardizing the market order. Ma Dongshan, deputy secretary of the Council for the Promotion of International Trade of Guangdong, and professor Liang Lijun and Zuo Lianshu from School of International Trade and Economics of GDUFS expressed their opinions on maintaining the market order.
They also mentioned the integrity problem in the market of Guangdong. Professor Liu Jisen of GRIIS thought that Guangdong, as the initiative province for reform and opening-up, was in urgent need of reconstructing the opening opinion since its initial advantages are on the decrease now. He also suggested rebuilding the business ethics to bring the new advantage of Guangdong into play.
As to the policy of “vacate the cage and change the bird” in Guangdong province, some experts also expressed their own opinions. Li Qing, the secretary-general of Research Institute for International Strategies pointed out that some districts in Guangdong did not consider the difficulty of bringing in the new industries. Because of the lack of creation in the strategies and methods of attracting investment, the structure and quality of foreign investment are to be improved.
After the salon, the Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies will make further cooperation with the Council for the Promotion of International Trade of Guangdong to discuss the problems of Guangdong business environment and possible improvement measures.
