On the morning of March 24, 2011, the unveiling ceremony of the Center for US Studies of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies was held in the 3rdMeeting Room of Administration Building in North Campus. Gu Yeli, the vice president of GDUFS, Dennis Johnson, deputy director of the Graduate School of Political Management in George Washington University, Cai Zhenshun, director of School of Legal Studies of GDUFS, Fang Kairui, deputy diector of Faculty of English Language and Culture of GDUFS, Li Qing, secretary-general of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies attended the ceremony.
The meeting was hosted by Tang Xiaosong, director of Center for US Studies of GRIIS. At the meetng, Professor Gu and Professor Dennis Johnson unveiled the Center jointly. Later, Professor Gu awarded the appointments of visiting researchers for professor Dennis Johnson and Dr. Shen Benqiu.
The Center is founded jointly by the School of Legal Studies, Faculty of English Language and Culture and Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies. The Center will create conditions for systematic and strategic research of US policy, economy and culture. As a platform for international academic exchanges, it aims to build a think-tank professional in American studies and a mature American research base in south China.
