Talking on the Work, Looking to the Future--Terminal Meeting of GRIIS was Held

On the morning of July 14th, the Review Meeting of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies at the End of the Second Semester of 2011 was held in the First Meeting Room of the Administration Building in North Campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. The participants include Professor Sui Guangjun, the Party secretary of GDUFS and the executive deputy director of GRIIS, Professor Gu Yeli, the vice president and the staff of the Institute. The meeting was hosted by Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of GRIIS.

Professor Gu Yeli approved of the work of the staff of GRIIS and pointed out that the work in GRIIS was practical and in a planned way which led to effective results. It is necessary for creative thinking to extend vision, explore research orientation, train research team and create research methods. He stressed that the Institute needed researches on social management which was to grasp the social development trend, provide consultation for the government and serve the society. The Institute should focus on the hot issues, put research plan into practice and form unique research areas.

Later, Professor Yang Shaogang concluded the work of editorial department of "Studies on Strategic Decisions". The department collected papers in a wide range and established the source of contributions from which the quality and reputation of paper were improving. It made connections with departments in Beijing and Nanjing and organized editors to study in the Professional Training Program of the Provincial Publication Board to ensure the quality of the papers. The issue codes of the journal have been applied at home and abroad. He stressed that the quality of the papers was the life of the journal. In the future, the focus will be increasing the transference and quotation of the journal. The department will try to publish one English journal every year.

Professor Li Yongning, chief editor of "Trends of the International Affairs" also made a work summary. He mentioned that the two journals should be complementary. "Trends of the International Affairs" has finished the six steps of building platform, integrating resources, carefully designing and so on. The department has developed the column for strategic observation of the journal and explored the area of international academic exchanges and the board of APEC countries. The next step is to review, analyze and predict the international situation and make efforts to become an international research and information platform to serve for politics, industry, academics and research.

Later, Cai Hong, director of Center for European Studies, concluded the work of the Center. It has applied the research projects of high level at home and abroad and participated in the international exchange and cooperation. Besides, it enhances the building of Master's degree program of European studies and undertakes large-scale conferences to promote the brand. She also made preliminary arrangements to the work of next Semester.

Li Qing, secretary-general of GRIIS concluded the work in the macro perspective. The Institute has finished 10 research reports and got 6 major subjects. It held successfully major conferences such as China (Guangdong)-ASEAN Forum. There are fruitful results in team building and brand column building. She pointed out that the future work should take "human" as the core, concise research direction, integrate resources and strengthen team building.

Finally, Sui Guangjun approved the work and achievements by the team and arranged in brief the work in the future. He hoped a summary would be finished as quickly as possible and the Meeting for Assessment Summary and Development of "Two Institutes and Two Bases" could be held. He wished the Institute would make effort to be the supreme think-tank and make its voice heard, so that to be agenuinethink-tank.
