The year of 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of China's entry to the WTO. In order to show the great changes in economy and society, legal system and related industries after the entry and summarize the experiences of participations to the international competitions and cooperation of China, the Commerce Department organized Press Corps of the Mainstream Media to interview in Guangdong. The focus is to know the changes in those aspects and the developments in motor,chemicalindustry, telecommunication, and agriculture and finance industry before and after the entry, as well as how the governments cope with theunfavourableterms within the rules of WTO.
Guangdong Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Department held the Symposium with the Press Corps of the Mainstream Media. The participants include the Ministry of Commerce, the People's Daily, the Xinhua News Agency, the China Central Television and other mainstream media; Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Agriculture Department, Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Department, the Legislative Office, the Financial Office, the Southern Daily, the Guangzhou Daily, the Guangdong TV and other provincial mainstream media.
Professor Xiao Yaofei attended the symposium and made speech on behalf of GRIIS. He first introduced Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies in brief and then talked about three significances of China's entry to the WTO. First, the course of entering WTO is combined with the course of reform and opening-up. Entering WTO was a periodical goal of reform and opening-up and has become a strong driving for it. Second, China has been harvesting since 2003. Third, the international status of China is promoted in all side such as economy, politics and culture. He also analyzed the enlightenments of the entry. First, the reform needs both internal drive and external drive, while the later is deciding. Second, the golden time for harvest has passed. Now is time for overall transition and upgrading of economy. Third, the ten years since China's entry saw a mutual benefit and shared prosperity of China and the world. Fourth, China has become one of the biggest beneficiaries of multilateral free trade system in the ten years.
His speech raised high attention of the mainstream media. He accepted interviews of reporters from People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency in the the free communication time. He exchanged ideas on how should Guangdong give full play to the daring spirit when entering the WTO and how to speed up the transition and upgrading of foreign trade and economic cooperation.
