On May 23rd, Guangdong Research Institute for International strategies held a plenary meeting to study and discuss the spirit from the third party congress of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. All members took active parts in the discussion and jointly put forward the major work and development plan for GRIIS to serve the GDUFS’ long-term and medium development plan.
Li Qing, the secretary general, began the meeting with a detailed analysis of the country’s 2011 plan. She emphasized that the university would take this chance to build collaborative innovation center that focused on regional development. By concluding her learning from the party congress, Prof. Li pointed out eight major goals for GRIIS and encouraged all members to strike for a high-level university with international features.
Other members in the meeting also shared their insight. Prof. Yang Shaogang, executive chief editor of “Studies on Strategic Decisions”, thought that the objectives in a new period not only pointed out the direction for everyone, but also required us to combine theory and practice. Prof. Li Yongning, director of editorial department of "Studies on Strategic Decisions" and chief editor of "Trends of the International Affairs", stressed the importance of internationalization and the responsibility for GRIIS to promote it in the university. Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of GRIIS, shared his understanding of internationalization in respect of research capability, research program and innovation platform.
Prof. Li summarized the meeting by putting forward five requirements for GRIIS, including reforming the scientific research system, setting up a high-end think tank, applying actively for international programs, releasing and publishing periodical in international journal and making more effort in hosting international meetings.
