Yang Chang-Soo, the new Koreanconsul-generalto Guangzhou, and Choi Kang-Soki, Korean consul to Guangzhou visited GDUFS for the first time on May 15th. Zhong Weihe, president of the university met with them in the VIP Room of north campus. Fang Fanquan,vice-presidentof GDUFS, Jiao Fangtai, director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, Li Qing, Secretary-general of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies and Quan Yonggen, vice dean of the Faculty of Asian Language and Culture, also attended the meeting.
Zhong Weihe extended his appreciation on behalf of the university that the consul-general could visit GDUFS in spite of his busy schedule. Ever since the Korean Language major was founded in 2003, it has gained great development. Now, it has over 200 undergraduates and graduates. The university has built great cooperation relationship with many Korean universities, which could not be achieved without the support of South Korean consulate general in Guangzhou.
Yang Chang-Soo said it was his honor to be here. During his term of office, he would try to advocate GDUFS to more Korean people and promote the people-to-people exchanges among two sides.
Zhong Weihe mentioned the university had jointed the Asian Campus Program. Yang Chang-Soo described China-Korea relationship with 3 advantages: geographical adjacency, identity of people’s mind, and the cultural and educational cooperation.
After the meeting, Yang Chang-Soo visited simultaneous interpreting room and library, and wrote an inscription for the university.
