In the morning of Sep. 6th, Sui Guangjun, the Party secretory of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the executive deputy director of Guangdong Research Institute for International Strategies, met with Prof. Stephen Nicholas, Yunshan Scholar of GDUFS and vice president of University of Newcastle, Australia, in the VIP Hall of Administration Building on North Campus. The meeting was also attended by Jiao Fangtai, director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office , Liang Jie, the deputy director, Li Qing, secretary-general of GRIIS, Xie Wenjun, the deputy director of Human Resource Division. Prof. Sui and Nicholas exchanged views on the cooperation of research program of the two Universities, the industrial transferring and upgrading of Guangdong and the building of “happy Guangdong”.

Prof. Nicholasapproved ofthe development of the research program by GRIIS and University of Newcastle. During his visit, he will attend the Economic and Trade Forum of Guangdong Province as the Yunshan Scholar of GDUFS and give a keynote speech which will show the experience and lessons of German, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Prof. Sui mentioned that the industrial transferring and upgrading was the main task for Guangdong economy and a top concern of government, enterprises and academics. He believed that the lecture of Prof. Nicholas would provide new ideas on this issue.
Later, they talked on the cooperation of GDUFS and Lancaster University and agreed that it was necessary to build a creative and research intensive university. Finally, they wished the future copperation a great success.
