In the afternoon of July 30th, at the invitation of Oceanic and Fishery Bureau of Guangdong, Professor Liu Jisen, deputy secretary general of Guangdong Research Institute for International Studies,, and Professor Chen Wanling, director of International Trade and Economic Research Center and researcher of GRIIS, attended the “Seminar of Guangdong’s Application of Establishing China-ASEAN Marine Economic Cooperation Pilot Area” held in Dong Fang Hotel. The meeting was hosted by Zhang Limin, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province.
The meeting also invited Chen Ji, director of Department of Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tang Dongmei, director of the Department of International Cooperation of State Oceanic Administration, Liu Xiaobing, director of Fisheries Bureau of Ministry of Agriculture and other leaders of national departments. They made constructive advice and suggestions for the meaning, condition and mechanism of Guangdong establishing China-ASEAN marine economic cooperation pilot area.
The representatives of Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Provincial Department of Finance, Provincial Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Office, State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Guangdong Province, Academy of Social Sciences of Guangdong Province, Provincial Development Research Center, Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, South China Sea Institute of Oceanology, CAS, Breeding Center for Freshwater Fishes of High Quality, and Raoping Jinhang Net Cage Technology Development Co. , Ltd., made speeches. Considering the advantage of Guangdong to develop marine economy and the demand of ASEAN countries on marine economy development, the representatives put forward advice and suggestions on the cooperation modes and measures with ASEAN in areas like sea transportation, port building, fishery production, marine science and technology and ecological protection.
Professor Chen Wanling made keynote speech on behalf of the University. He analyzed the conditions, operation mode and building steps of the pilot area. Professor Liu Jisen also suggested the area should be built with diplomatic thoughts and realize mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. The Provincial Oceanic and Fishery Bureau will entrust GDUFS to put forward the final project plan for the China-ASEAN marine economic cooperation pilot area.
