On the morning of 1stNovember, Li Qing, secretary general of GRIIS, visited School of English for International Business(SEIB) with a group of five people and took an investigation into their teachers’ scientific research. Guo Guihang, dean of SEIB, Wu Yiming, deputy dean of SEIB and Che Xiaozhen, secretary of the Party Committee of SEIB met with them in the conference room 318. Also attended were teacher representatives from Department of International Business and Department of English for International Economic Law of SEIB.
First of all, Secretary Che gave a warm welcome to teachers from GRIIS which she referred to as an important academic platform for the social service and research innovation of GDUFS. She was looking forward to learning from the discussion with GRIIS about scientific research and coordinating the development among all subjects of SEIB.
Secretary General Li firstly introduced the progress of work in GRIIS and pointed out as well that there was a good foundation for collaboration between GRIIS and SEIB. She suggested that this meeting would enhance the cooperation in order to better carry on with relevant work. Then she laid the emphasis on the current key research area of GRIIS—“How to raise China’s discourse power in the tide of internationalization”. She mentioned that a research team from the University of Newcastle in Australia was expected to visit GDUFS in November and hold a working conference, which she hoped to convene with joints efforts of GRIIS and SEIB.
Prof. Yang Shaogang from GRIIS offered some advice to the teachers of SEIB on their scientific research in allusion to their foreign language proficiency. As he pointed out, teachers of SEIB should take foreign languages as tools to improve professional competence and further develop their academic research. At last, he encouraged the teachers to take the right to speak for making progress in life.
Dean Guo briefly presented the major working points of SEIB. In the last decade, the focus was talents cultivation. In the next decade, there will be three main functions including teaching, conducting scientific research and serving for the society. Also did he raise the major problems about work on scientific research, that is, how to decide on research orientation, how to figure out research method and how to extend research platform on conditions that the educational background of most teachers of SEIB is foreign language studies. Therefore, he expressed the expectation of achieving information communication with GRIIS in order to target breakthrough on scientific research.
At last, Wu Yiming, the Deputy Dean, and Zhang Wubao, the teacher representative, put forward their opinions on conducting scientific research based on their own research areas and work experience.
The investigation came to a successful conclusion.
