GRIIS Held General Assembly for Research Fellows

On the afternoon of Oct. 25th , General Assembly for Research Fellows of GRIIS was held in the 2nd Conference Room of Administration Building on North Campus. The meeting made conclusion for the scientific research work and arranged the working plans in the future.

Deputy secretary general Liu Jisen concluded the recent work into eight aspects. First, GRIIS has applied 31 programs, including 2 National Social and Scientific Major Programs, 2 Innovation Team Project of Ministry of Education, 4 projects of Guangdong Development and Reform Commission, 13 joint research projects of soft science and 10 University projects. Second, 15 programs have been conducted, including the Survey on the Restructuring of International Enterprises and Subsidies, Low Carbon Development Strategy Study on Major Countries and the Opportunities, Challenges and Suggestions for China's "Going-out" Strategy under the New Situation. Third, GRIIS has published 42 research reports, 22 of which were approved by provincial leaders. Fourth, 5 subject investigations were conducted, including the cooperation program with Newcastle University of Australia, Program of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and investigation of Innovation and Improvement on Attracting Investment. Fifth, GRIIS is actively applying for scientific bases like soft science major research base, nation study center of Ministry of Education, and University bases. Sixth, GRIIS has organized the tops trainging courses like Provincial Organization Department Training: 2012 Special Seminar on Learning the International Experience of Industrial Transferring and Upgrading and Zhuhai Organization Department Training: Special Seminar on Learning the International Experience of Industrial Transferring and Upgrading. Seventh, GRIIS has established the publication team for media and press connection and subject planning, such as industrial transferring and upgrading, internationalized and legalized business environment, low carbon forum, global economic governance, ASEAN cooperation and other 3 subjects. Eighth, GRIIS has planned several academic conferences, such as the 3rd China (Guangdong)-ASEAN Strategic Cooperation Forum (November 29th , 2012), the 2nd Guangdong Low Carbon International Forum, and the International Academic Seminar on China's Participation in Global Economic Governance (December 1st , 2012). Finally, he mentioned the 2013 plan for scientific research: the application for major programs of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and major research programs and the selection of subjects for research reports in 2013.

After that, Secretary General Li Qing raised some requirements about the following work. Firstly, the “International Seminar on China’s Participation in the Global Economic Governance” is going to be held on 1st December and experts from other schools as well as editors of eight prestigious journals in China are invited for discussion. Therefore, she called on all the research fellows to get fully prepared and take an active part in the seminar. In addition, she also inspired everyone to apply for the research projects of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Ministry of Education, International Fund and those that are jointly launched by Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and Economic and Information Commission of Guangdong. Meanwhile, she required the publication plan of next year so as to promote the progress of projects systematically.

Deputy Secretary General Cai Hong drew a brief conclusion about the international cooperation achieved by GRIIS. One is the collaboration agreement on master and doctor programs signed with UCP of France, the other is preparation for the ASEAN International Forum and the Low-carbon International Forum. She also stated the basic idea of conducting researches and expressed her hopes for all research fellows that they could live up to the following three principles of topic selection: what they can do, what they want to do and what they have to do. The research fellows are required to make a list of their important research results and put forward two to three international issues in their own research fields, highlighting the value of studying these issues and their influence on Guangdong and China.
