Representatives of GRIIS Attended the Guangdong-California Low Carbon Development Dialogue

On the afternoon of April 15th, the Guangdong-California Low Carbon Development Dialogue, co-organized by Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province, Environmental Protection Agency of California and Energy Commission of California, was held in the Banquet Hall of Dongfang Hotel, Guangzhou. The meeting was undertaken by GRIIS, Center for Climate Strategies of the United States and Global Environmental Institute. The meeting aims to provide a platform for governments, research institutes and scholars and experts of Guangzhou and California, to discuss low carbon development and search for cooperation areas. Also attended were Gu Yeli, vice president of GDUFS and Li Qing, secretary general of GRIIS.

The meeting

Lu Xiulu, deputy director of Development and Reform Commission of Guangdong Province, and Mr. Matthew Rodriquez, director-general of Environmental Protection Administration of California, gave brief speeches respectively. Then, Zhang Zulin, director of Bureau of Energy of Guangdong Province, introduced the low carbon development of Guangdong from perspectives of location, distribution, exploitation, low carbon development and energy development. Bob Weisenmiller, chairman of Energy Commission of California, introduced the AS32 Bill, carbon trading in California, and RPS.

Li Qing, secretary general of GRIIS, introduced to the Institute, its mission and research areas, as well as its achievements in low carbon development. The key research areas include China participating in global economic governance, Multilateral trading mechanism and international trade, Guangdong enterprises going-out, and Guangdong's strategy for dealing with global climate change which refers to the International Exchange Center for Dealing with Global Climate Change. It is a platform for international communication, academics, talents training and consultation and services. GRIIS has held two International Forums on Low Carbon Development of Guangdong and made a series of achievements including projects, books, papers and reports, of whichChallenges and Countermeasures in Low carbon Era--Designment for Low Carbon Development Strategy of GuangdongandResearch on the Impact of Carbon Tariff to the Foreign Trade and Economic Development of Guangdong and Its Countermeasureswere approved by Huang Huahua, the governor of Guangdong. The future research focus will be strategies to deal with climate change, energy policy, low carbon building, and low carbon trade.
