On the afternoon of 28thOctober, Günter Heiduk, the professor of World Economy Research Institute and Director of East Asia Research Center, made a keynote speech on the topic of “EU Antidumping Cases against China”. Master students and doctoral candidates of European Studies and other faculties’ teachers and students attended the meeting. The lecture was hosted by Cai Hong, deputy secretary general of GRIIS and director of Center for European Studies.

Professor Heiduk first clarified the meaning of anti-dumping, and through some statistics and charts, he deeply analyzed the WTO anti-dumping treaty and also emphasized the mechanism and procedure of settling the claim in WTO. At last, he listed two cases—“anti-dumping case of leather shoes of Europe and China” and “steel fastening case”.

In the Q&A session, professor Heiduk answered some questions about whether Chinese market would threat European market and the measures that China should take when facing the anti-dumping actions. He said that in the background of economic globalization, the trade between China and Europe was a win-win relation. Chinese companies should insist on the transparent principle when facing the anti-dumping actions.

With professor Heiduk’s accurate statistics, humorous language and vivid explanation, the teachers and students learned a lot from this speech. The lecture ended in the heated discussion.
