Cai Hong, Deputy Secretary General of GRIIS and Director of Center for European Studies Attended the Third Academic Forum of EU Research of Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits

From 15thto 18thOctober, the Third Academic Forum of EU Research of Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits was held in Taiwan. More than 20 units and nearly 40 experts of European research attended the forum. Cai Hong, deputy secretary General of GRIIS and director of Center for European Studies was invited to the forum and made a keynote speech.

The forum was held at Chengchi University and TamKang University. At Chengchi University, the experts focused on “the development of the relation between Europe and America and its effect to Eastern Asia”. The theme was discussed from the aspects of political, economic and cultural perspectives. At TamKang University, the experts discussed the topic “the major political issues of EU” and “the new development of EU system”. At the forum, the experts talked about the interaction between Europe-America and East Asia, the US-European relationship, the effect of economic relationship of US and Europe to the economy of East Asia and so on.

In the discussion of “the new development of EU system”, Cai Hong made a keynote speech of “the Anti-dumping Discretion of EU—Take Non-Market-Economy Country as an Example”. Cai Hong analyzed the feature, formation and reasons of the anti-dumping discretion of EU. She also gave suggestions on how to reply to the anti-dumpingdiscretionof EU. The speech got good response from the audience.

Su Hongda, director of Center for EU Studies in Taiwan, Cai Liankang, vice president of Chengchi University, and Dai Wanqin, vice president of TamKang University attended the forum and addressed the forum. The experts had a face-to-face communication with Doctor Li Jinzhen, president of Jinmen University and the leaders of various faculties.

It is reported that the fourth session would be held in Shanghai, and the “Academic Forum of EU Research of Both Sides of the Taiwan Straits” is a rare forum which focuses on the international issue research in the academic exchange between both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
