Abstract:Commonwisdom holds that the high degree of specialization among individuals in largeand mature firms enhances operational efficiency but stifles individuals’entrepreneurial initiatives. Yet, it remains unclear how firms could resolvethe paradox between specialization and entrepreneurship. Drawing on theories ofentrepreneurship and innovation in large organizations, Xu Han developed amulti-level perspective and suggested that individuals could accumulate diverseintra-firm experiences, which allowed them to overcome the constraints forentrepreneurial initiatives in their work context or even leverage their workcontext for entrepreneurial activities.
